Kapow work with university students, college students and youth dance companies to create an original work.
'Beth and Eithne create a wonderful atmosphere in the studio in which students can share and develop ideas both individually and as part of a collective. They work really hard to ensure each student is challenged and supported through their individual journey, whilst also managing to create a polished performance piece in just one week! We have been extremely happy with the work Kapow have achieved with us and would highly recommend them to other institutions.'
Sarah Alexander, Lecturer of BA Dance, Bath Spa University
'Dance Manchester & the Whitworth commissioned Kapow to make a new outdoor work with regional dance students. They worked with both FE and HE students who had never met before. Kapow’s concept was fun and engaging and the choreography excited and challenged the students, enabling them to generate voluntary commitment out of term time and fuse them together as a performance group. Their innovative use of props and physicality made the work a visual draw for public audiences, accessible, lightly humorous but exploring environmental themes and the inspiration of the new tree sculpture in Whitworth Park.'
Deb Ashby, Director of Dance Manchester

WORKSHOPS IN SCHOOLS
Kapow offer a performance and workshop package which includes:
20min performance of latest professional production Grow
30 min reflection/discussion
3 hour workshop on themes from the piece (can be divided into 2 x 1.5 hrs)
Workshops are based on the themes within our professional work and will offer students the opportunity to create and play with their own movement, alongside learning to work with others. Workshops can be geared towards the following: -
Contemporary Dance Technique- We introduce students to this discipline and set movement tasks to develop their movement skills.
Partner work- developing trust and responsibility with one another and creating duets
Object Manipulation- here we will begin to introduce the concept of playing with objects within dance and incorporating them into physical story-telling.
Our style is rooted in contemporary release techniques, improvisation, floor work and intricate partnering.
We teach classes which focus on preparing the body to move in a safe, open and available way, accessing the breath and finding new freedom, fluidity and ease - allowing us all to push our physicality further.
Play in vertical and horizontal planes, enjoying the upside down world as well as the right side up. We use mobilisations, improvisation, yogic exercises, floor work and phrases.
We have both had extensive technical training and are evolving a dance practice which we feel supports the body in daring and challenging movement.
